Albert W. Bee diary excerpt and related speeches : typed transcript and TD, [1931].

Typed transcript (33 leaves) of excerpts from Bee's diary, describing his voyage from N.Y. to Calif. aboard the ship South Carolina, Jan. 24-June 30, 1849. Daily entries describe sea sickness, the weather, the ship's progress, an outbreak of smallpox among the passengers, ships sighted, and daily life on board. ALso descrbies in some detail stopovers in Rio de Janeiro and the islands of Juan Fernandez. Includes typed drafts of what appear to be two speeches given by Ernest A. Wiltsee. The first speech, dated Aug. 7, 1931, is to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in honor of Bee's wife, S. Louise Bee; the second speech, undated and with corrections made in ink, is presumably an address given on the occasion of the donation of the transcript by Bee's son, Everett Newton Bee, to the California Historical Society, May 19, 1931.
